In 2020 as I was leaving my workplace in a gulf of uncertainty as the world was gripped by a pandemic, I saw possibility in a discarded electric EXIT sign. At the studio, I traced the metal stencil onto wood and carved the letters as a woodblock. I have explored meaning by juxtaposing images that represent destruction (Shiva), passage and displacement (floating iron doorstops), and time warp (an antique clock spring). I have recently been pushing against the visual insistence of letterforms and language by burying and disguising the word with drawing materials. These are also expressions of loss, conflict, and ambiguity.
