In 2020, just before my workplace went into lockdown for the pandemic, I saw possibility in a discarded electric EXIT sign. At the studio, I traced the metal stencil onto wood and carved the letters as a woodblock. I have explored its meaning by juxtaposing images that represent destruction (Shiva), passage, suspension (floating irons), and time warp (antique clock parts). I have recently been pushing against the visual insistence of letterforms and language by burying and disguising the word in a drawing. These are expressions of loss, invisibility, and ambiguity.
