Counterpoint / Hawks Series, 2022 - 2023

This series, like New Circle, features a circular woodblock that separated into pieces from the stress of the printing press. I responded by arranging them in various ways to suggest movement in nature. In the 6-panel piece the lower section refers to the mental image of three hawks sitting on fence posts. I referred to bird guide photos of red shouldered hawk feathers for color and blending clues. In the top three panels, as well as the other single prints, there is an additional blended layer of dark blue to white ink that I worked into with tools for a looser, calligraphic feel.
